My family and I first tried Lazaro's before we moved to the area and it has become a staple since. We have been here multiple times and I had not reviewed it sooner because honestly, the jury was still out on what a fair rating might be. The thing is, I am not a big fan of Cuban food. This is somewhat ironic considering my Cuban descent (I was made in America with Cuban parts). Nonetheless, I did not think it would be fair to rate Lazaro's in a way that might be skewed by my general dislike of traditional Cuban dishes, which is probably fueled in large part by the fact that I compare all of them to Abuela's cooking and none of them can ever hold a candle to the magic that Abuela created in the kitchen when I was lucky enough to still have her around. My hubby, on the other hand, is a major Cuban food addict. His hangry side comes out from time to time if he goes too long without a dose of his beloved white rice and beans, so whether I liked it or not, Lazaro's was inevitably added to our list of regular haunts so it was important for me to find something on the menu that I could not only live with but actually enjoy. It took a while, but I did finally find a couple items on the menu that I do genuinely enjoy. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of how Lazaro does his croquetas, which are typically one of my favorite things to eat at Cuban restaurants. I just don't like the flavor of the ham mix. I do, however, really like the tomato-based sauce that they come with but I prefer to dip the mariquitas in there more than the croquetas. Since Lazaro is essentially the only genuine Cuban game in town (aside from Cubanos ATL which we haven't tried yet since it's a sandwich spot and hubby is not a fan of those types of establishments), these are the only croquetas I have access to here, so it sucks that I can't bring myself to like them but alas, it is what it is. I did not like the arroz con pollo because it does not taste at all like what I expect traditional Cuban arroz con pollo to taste like and neither does the picadillo in my opinion. Hubby's go-to dish is the steak sandwich with white rice and black beans on the side. He loves it and frequently craves it. He also enjoys the palomilla with rice and beans sometimes and the other day he tried the griled chicken breast with rice and beans, which he also liked. He is generally a happy camper as long as whatever he eats comes with rice and beans. I don't care for rice or beans, so I am a bit harder to please. What I like most from Lazaro's is the breaded steak with fries (as long as they overcook the steak so that it's nice and crispy). When I am not in the mood for steak, I will usually go for the steak sandwich as this is the best sandwich on the menu even though it doesn't come with cheese or I ask them to just make a plain ham and cheese sandwich, which they have done for me on occasion. Most of their sandwiches come on what they call Cuban bread and while it is decent bread, it's nothing like the Cuban bread we are used to from Miami. The other day, I decided to be a bit more adventurous and ordered the Cuban bowl without the rice. This was actually better than expected. Despite my general disdain for black beans, the ones in this bowl were rather tasty and the whole meal was nicely filling. The fries are consistently good as are their fried plantains and mariquitas. By far the best thing about Lazaro's, in my opinion, is the stellar service! All the servers we have had are fabulous but there is none better than Nick. Nick's service is always on point and he makes the entire visit more enjoyable just by being there. Based on the excellent service and the food items I have come to enjoy, I would personally rate Lazaro's a solid 4 stars. While it is one of hubby's favorite spots, he also agrees that it warrants 4 stars because he does love it but says it would not really be fair to give it 5 since it literally has no real competition for Cuban food in a 20-mile radius. If you love Cuban food, you are probably going to love Lazaro's too. Maybe I'll see you there!

We decided to head to Roswell for something different than our typical John's Creek fare. We came across Lazaro's and had heard about it for a few years. The location is in an old house, decorated with lights outside and adorned with lovely artwork in the various rooms. The service is homey and welcoming. We ordered spinach and corn empanadas empanadas that came with a sauce that should be bottled and we put it on everything. We also had cod fritters and a side salad. The fritters were okay but the dressing on the salad was unique and tangy. We had pulled pork, chicken, steak, and sausage. The dishes came with a nice rice, black beans and fantastic fried sweet plantains. The meats were fine but were slightly lacking flavor ( the aforementioned sauce helped. For dessert, we had one of our favorites, tres leches cake. This was authentic and crave worthy. This was a nice distraction from the usual standards and worth returning.

If you love Cuban food, this restaurant is a MUST try. There are a few parking spaces out front but an ample sized parking lot behind the restaurant. There is outdoor dining area in front of the restaurant that is shaded by a huge Magnolia tree. Upon entry into Lazaro's, the kitchen and a bar area are on the left side of the restaurant with dining rooms in the back and right side of the restaurant. The dining areas are tastefully decorated with Spanish art with some funny Signs mixed in with the art. All of the seating is a combination of tables with seating for 4 or more guests. Our server was super friendly and answered all our questions about the menu. She brought the two of us menus and took our drink orders. My better half loved the large bottle of water that our server brought to the table. We ordered two sandwiches to share. One was a classic Cuban Sandwich and the other was the Spanish Sausage Sandwich. We both agreed that the Cuban Sandwich was the star of our plates. The pressed Cuban was adorned with tasty roasted pork piled high along with Black Forest Ham and Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread. The Spanish Sausage sandwich was good but the sausage was a bit salty for our tastes. This sandwich has the same ingredients as the Cuban but the roasted pork is replaced with fried Spanish Sausage (our server compared it to bacon). For our sides we chose Yuca fries which were delicious; crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. These were served with Laz sauce which is a tomato and mayo sauce. The other side we selected was the mixed rice which is rice cooked with black beans topped with diced purple onions and fresh chopped parsley. We really liked both of the sides. Our server checked on use regularly and always had a smile on her face and seemed to love her job which always makes the dining experience better. If you enjoy Cuban food, you need to run out to Lazaro's Cuban Cuisine for some great service and excellent Cuban dishes.

Words cannot EXPRESS how good their food is. Their Cuban sandwich is to die for and is addicting. Perfect combination of flavors and good portion sizes. The flavor of the beans are garlicky/oniony and super addicting. The rice is always the perfect texture with a salty/buttery flavor. I had their coffee as well and it was pretty good. Additionally, I had their tres leches and it wasn't the best, but I was just trying something new. Nevertheless, try them out, it's too good to skip out on.

So good, I had to come back. I didn't have a big appetite, so I ordered the Beef Empanadas with a side of Rice and Beans. The Empanadas were delicious. The crust was flaky and they didn't fall apart. I'm not sure what the sauce is called, but it definitely was a good compliment to the Empanadas. I also ordered a Sangria, which was good. If you drink Sangrias, this one is a must try. It has fresh fruit with the perfect balance of wine. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly. I sat at the bar this time. I have a view of fresh sunflowers andddd... I have a peek at the kitchen that has so many good looking dishes passing by. That means, I'll be back! Lol

This place is AMAZING! They have the best Cuban sandwich around. I've been told they import their bread from Miami. I really enjoy the Ropa Vieja, empanadas and tamales. 10/10 would recommend their pitcher of sangria. You get a good amount of sangria for $28 while their glass of sangria is $10 so it's a good deal. We went for Father's Day and they had a deal for 2 Cubans for $15 total. It was a crazy good deal. It's a small building that I think used to be an old house. I personally find sitting inside tends to be a little warm. They have a small patio that is very nice if they weather is good. The parking lot is very small and gravel so if you go during a busy time, you may have to park elsewhere. Their staff are always very kind and attentive.

Outdoor dining under the magnolia is pleasant and tasty at Lazaro's. All your expected favorites are here, with some fun twists on classic Cuban dishes. Among other highlights, this is the one place that convinced my wife to change her 100% Ropa Vieja ordering record. So an extra half-star for that. If it's lunchtime, I'm likely to get something on Cuban bread. Whatever, just slap it between two loaves and smash it Cuba-style. Today was no change, and the steak was tasty, with rice/beans rounding out a huge portion. I know you're all pining for my wife's choice, and well you should. Apparently the star of their show is the roast pork, which is roasted for 24 hours or 24 months or something long. I agree it was flavorful, and I've been know to reject a 23-hour roast because I can tell. The lime sauce added a zesty topping. Take it from all the Cuban locals who pick this place for birthdays, celebrations, and more: they know the secret. From sangria to espresso, and of course tres leches and flan, head over and grab a table before it's too crowded.

Love this place - we've been several times now and always have had a great experience. They have an awesome patio with lots of seating but the inside is pretty cool too - they have a ton of artwork all around which is fun to look at. Their sandwiches are amazing!!! Such good, crusty Cuban bread and the meat and sauces are delicious. We've had the empanadas which are tasty and plantains and yucca. We've also had the chorizo and cheese app - the chorizo has just the right amount of spice. The sangria is yummy and comes out in pretty green jugs. We've also had good service - the servers are friendly and attentive...highly recommend if you're looking for a good meal!
